How To Fix Your Attitude Towards Money

How To Fix Your Attitude Towards Money

It is easy for people to get defensive or feel ashamed when they are struggling with their finances. But here's the thing, where you are is just where you are, not WHO you are. Starting with this mindset will set you up for success!

The first step to creating healthy finances is to get clear on what your financial goals are. Start by writing down where you want to be in 1, 5 and 10 years time. Having clear goals will help you create even clearer action steps.

Most people don't like this next step, but in order to go where you want to go, you have to know where you've been. Take a look at your monthly spending: how much money do you have leftover each month after expenses? Is there leftover? Make it a game to see how much you can increase that leftover by removing any unnecessary spending, canceling subscriptions, and cutting out useless expenses.

Here's the best part - you get to give that money a plan! Tell your money where to go. The 3 areas your leftover money will go towards are: debt, investments and fun. Using the snowball effect, start by paying down your smallest debts. Once you've paid off a debt, take that money and add it onto the minimum payment of the next debt.

The key here is consistency. Make it fun, celebrate your progress and create your new belief about money.

If you aren't sure exactly where to start, let's set up a time to chat! e-mail me Guinevere@roilhighness.com with subject line CHAT ME and let's see how we can help you change your money mindset today.

How to stop seeking the approval of others

Are you seeking approval from others to feel good about yourself?

Do you seek validation from others to make yourself feel better?

If so, self-esteem may be the problem. The reason we don't have low self-esteem is because often we were taught that our self-worth should come from other people instead of ourselves.

If you struggle with making decisions without seeking approval from others, I'm going to help you solve it in three easy steps.

Step One: Determine your values.

This is what makes you happy. These are the things that you love in your life. Could it be time with family? Could it be having more fun? Could it be leaving a legacy for your children? Decide what values will make you happy and then work to create your life around your own values, which will be completely different from someone else's. This is the most important step of self-esteem because it defines who you are and what your self-worth should be. A few examples include: honesty, faithfulness in relationships, family values, etc. Write down a list of values that are most important to you, and focus on your top values as a "code of conduct" for living your life day to day.

Step Two: Learn how to trust yourself.

The foundation of self-esteem is self-trust. When we have self trust, a firm belief in our own abilities, then we can confidently pursue the things that make us happy and care less about what others think because it no longer affects us so deeply. Practice self-trust by accepting your strengths as well as your flaws. Listen to your inner compass. That's going to take you on a journey in your life. Sit with it, listen, experience, and you will begin to trust yourself.

Step Three: Autosuggestion.

If I told you that your brain believes everything that you told it, what would you tell your brain today? Think about how your ideas are great ideas. Tell your brain your ideas are worthy. This is how we validate our own self worth and how we don't need to seek approval from other people for our own actions. Self-affirming statements to yourself can help you learn how self-acceptance and self-love. "I like myself." "I am a good person, worthy of love." This kind of autosuggestion is an excellent way to build self esteem because it's in your control. You don't have to wait.

It’s time to stop seeking approval of others and listen to your own voice. Start by determining what you value in life, trusting yourself more, and using autosuggestion techniques so that you can put this new mindset into practice.

How Do I know if my goals are challenging enough?

How Do I know if my goals are challenging enough?
How many times have you set goals and gotten bored or lost interest? Maybe they just seemed too hard or they were taking too long to accomplish.

OR maybe, you set a goal and achieve it within a few weeks, checking the box quickly but wondering if it’s actually pushing you forward in life.

The reason we set goals is to grow, so how do you know you’re growing enough?

Here’s what I’ve found to be helpful in setting goals:

  1. align your goal to your purpose.
This one seems obvious but your goal has got to have some emotional attachment, you’ve got to really be fueled by that because that is the thing that will keep you going when you feel like giving up.

  1. will this goal change your life?
When setting your goal, think of the one thing that will completely change the way you live your life. It’s got to be life changing or it’s not big or hard enough. Otherwise what’s the point? Just to say you achieved a goal? This is how you’ll assure massive growth both physically and mentally.

  1. does your goal make you nervous or give you butterflies?
If not it’s probably not big enough. There will be days where you question your goal. You may even wonder how you’ll ever get there. But as long as you have step #1 down, you’ll be able to keep your eye on your goal and keep going.

  1. can your goal be broken down into small steps?
The thing about big goals is that sometimes they take a while to achieve. It can be easy to lose momentum. But if you can give yourself “quick wins” along the way, your mind and body will feel that jolt of excitement to keep you going.

  1. Are you tracking your progress
Just like in business, if you’re not tracking your success, how do you know how you’re progressing? Keeping track of the daily action steps you’re taking will help you keep going. You’ll see just how much 3 action steps a day will get you in a year (that’s over 1,000 steps by the way!)

And last but not least - there is magic in goal setting with others. Having a community to do it with keeps you that much more accountable. I like to say that we are #bettertogether

Oh and by the way, if you’re looking for an easy way to keep you blasting through goals (like paying down $28,000 in debt in just five months) the Oola app and framework is designed to help you do just that. It connects you with others, reminds you of your daily action steps and makes goal setting fun! The truth is, you increase your success rate of achieving goals by 78% when you write them down, do it with a community and take daily steps.

The world needs your genius - your goals not only impact you and your life but think about how much you’ll change generations and the people around you! Can’t wait to see what goals you set!

Oranges + Skittles - you're guide to getting shit done

Oranges + Skittles - you're guide to getting shit done
I wrote that title and I realize that I say "shit" a lot but I'm gonna go with the fact that it just means I'm really super-duper passionate about the things I talk about here and swear words are just an emphasis on that.

Ok, oranges + skittles. What the heck Gwen, how does fruit and candy help me get shit done.

Let me start with telling you about 3 by 5 notecards. I learned this from the Oola guys and it has changed the way I go about my day.

Let's imagine that you have some goals and dreams you want to achieve (because you DO....) and you've three oranges and a bag of skittles in front of you. Today the oranges represent the three daily action steps you will take daily that will help you get closer to achieving your goals. The skittles represent all the little things that need to be done in our day like dishes, laundry, feeding the kids, food shopping, maybe homeschooling. All those tasks that keep you and your kids alive and your house afloat.

If you had a tall vase in front of you and you put all your skittles in first they would all fit. Congrats, you just accomplished all the little things you needed to do today.

If you then tried to fit your three oranges in, you'd realize there wasn't enough space for them. Maybe you'd get one in there.....possibly two, but definitely not three. There's just no room! Boooooo, those important things that will help you get your goals achieved just don't fit inside your day this way.

So you take everything out of the vase and you try again except this time you put the three oranges in first. Perfect, they all fit! Now you take your skittles and add those too and what do you know, all the skittles AND all the oranges fit inside the vase.

That vase is YOUR day. Your daily action steps that will get you closer to your goal must take precedence. There's no excuse - every day they must get done. Because just three daily action steps will equal over 1,000 steps towards your goal in one year.

I don't know about you but up until now, I've never taken that many steps towards my goals in a year.

So we're obviously not buying tons of oranges and skittles and doing this task every day (because lord knows I'd eat all the skittles.....), but we CAN plug these action steps into a daily accountability tracker.

Sure you can write them on a notecard every night before you go to bed, but what's missing? Accountability, community, and FUN in the process.

You want to be sure you achieve your daily action steps? Join a community working towards doing the same thing and you will be 78% more likely to achieve your goals.

Kid you not, this shit works! So when you're looking to achieve some big goals, some of the ones that have been on your dream board year after year, this is it. This is what allowed me to pay down $27,000 in debt in 5 months. More debt payoff than I'd ever been able to do since having the goal of paying down my debt. It's allowed me to be consistent in my morning routine; waking up, reading 10 pages of my book, and getting my workout in all before 8am. Now I can be intentional with my kids and still have time to work on my oranges, the things that will help me create a life I am totally in love with.

What's holding you back? Do you desire to get more shit done? Join us! The Oola app has revolutionized the notecard Oranges + Skittles system and it gives you the accountability and community and fun, and EVEN suggests daily action steps that you may not have thought of in order to reach your goals.

It's personalized to you - no one else will have a framework like yours.  You ready? Check it out here and let's do this together!!!

Why you need to make a change in your life RIGHT NOW!

Why you need to make a change in your life RIGHT NOW!

If you're reading this blog post, I'm guessing that you are feeling stuck in your life and want to make a change. This is something that many of us struggle with on a regular basis; it's not always easy to take the leap out of our comfort zone and do things differently. Here are the top three reasons to start making change right now:

* You're unhappy with your current life.  Does every day seem like the same thing over and over again? Do you feel that you are living for someone else or just going through the motions of what's expected from you? If this is how it feels, then that's a sure sign to make some changes!

* You're feeling stuck.  There are times when we don't know what the future holds and how it's going to turn out or if things will ever get better for us. This can be a difficult thought process that really weighs on our mind, making changes seem impossible!

* You just want more time to spend with your loved ones.    Sometimes we feel like our life is on fast-forward and that there's not enough time for all of the things we need to do.

There are many other reasons why you might want to make a change in your life but these three cover some of the most common ones.

See if you can see yourself in any of these areas we outline in the video today:

The most important thing you can do is to tap into your emotions. Ask yourself how you feel about your current situation. Honestly answer it!

Then, ask yourself how you WANT to feel and notice the difference between current situation and future situation.

Once you've decided you're ready (and you are, go you!!!), you need some daily action steps that will get you moving. That's where I come in.

If you’ve forgotten what it’s like to dream big and passionately pursue something you want to do… if you wish you had a friend and mentor who thinks like you and who can inspire you to achieve big goals… if you need someone who can guide you to the people, strategies and resources you’re looking for… I'm here for you. Through the perfect blend of video training, reading materials, workbook challenges, and 1-on-1 coaching with me, we'll work together for 10 weeks to help you turn your dreams into achievable goals.

Conclusion:  Now, I'm not saying this is  going to be easy. It's not! But it will totally be worth the effort and I promise you'll feel so much better after taking this first step towards change in your life! If you're not sure you're ready, book a call with me, let's talk it out.

"You deserve a fulfilling life."

I want us all to make changes that create happiness for ourselves - ultimately leading to clarity, time freedom, financial freedom and FUN!

xoxo,

Gwen
